Hannah: With us today we have vet David Southland, an expert on pets and animals. Welcome to the studio, David.
David: Hello, Hannah.
Hannah: So, what's the most popular pet in the country, David?
David: What do you think?
Hannah: Um, I guess it has to be cats or dogs...
David: Wrong! In fact, it's fish! There are more fish in the USA than any other pet!
Hannah: Wow!
David: Yes! It's probably because people usually have lots of fish in the same aquarium.
Hannah: Ah, that makes sense. What's next then? Cats or dogs?
David: Cats come second, and dogs are third, but only just.
Hannah: And then?
David: The fourth most popular pets are birds
Hannah: Really? I don't know anyone who has a bird.
David: Well, lots of people love them, especially pigeons.
Hannah: Ah, OK.
David: The next three on the list are all rodents: hamsters in fifth place, rabbits in sixth place and guinea pigs in seventh place.
Hannah: OK. And after guinea pigs?
David: In eighth place are turtles.
Hannah: Aha! My nephew has three of them.
David: Then in ninth place comes snakes.
Hannah: Snakes! Ugh!
David: I know, but lots of people loves them.
Hannah: And what is the last pet to make the list?
David: The tenth most popular pets are horses.
Hannah: I'd love to have a horse! But they're so expensive.
David: Yes, I'm sure they'd be higher on the list if they were cheaper.
Hannah: Well, thanks very much, David!
