Nikola Tesla was an inventor, a physicist, and a mechanical and electrical engineer. He was born in 1856 in the old Austrian empire and later became an American citizen. Tesla is best known for many revolutionary contributions to the field of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Tesla's work formed the basis of modern alternating currect (AC) electric supply system which helped start the second Industrial Revolution. He is considered by many to be the "the patron saint of modern electricity". Much of his early work pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance. During this period, in the United States, Tesla's fame rivaled that of any other inventor or scientist in history or popular culture, but due to his eccentric personality, Tesla was regarded as a "mad scientist." Tesla didn't care for money and died in poverty in a New York hotel at the age of 86. Apart from his work on electromagnetism and engineering, Tesla also contributed to robotics, remote control, radar and computer science. In 1943, the Supreme Court of the United States credited him as the inventor of the radio.
